Overview

Perfect Square is a fast-moving game with a team-building twist. Your group must try to keep you at the center of their perfect square. No matter where you move or how you turn, group members must remain in the same orientation to you as when they started. This is a great opener at the beginning of an activity session.

In the following module you will learn how to properly set-up and facilitate the activity and then if you wish, move students through an academic and/or social skills development reflection experience.

*This activity has been adapted from the Team Building & Group Development CD-ROM of The Inspire! Youth Series from LearningChange, LLC.

Prerequisites

Ages
Perfect Square is great for any age group.

Group Size
A larger group size is recommended (8 and up, even numbers are ideal).

Setting
Any open space free of tripping hazards.

Duration
This activity should take about 10-20 minutes to complete with your group. Budget more time if you wish to go into depth by using any of the extension activities or questions.

Objectives

General
In this activity, some of the things you will inevitably notice include:

  1. Students will be physically engaged and in motion, running and walking, for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Students will grow more comfortable around each other and begin to shed the "too cool" personality.
  3. Students will work together and have an incredible time doing it!
