Begin the Course

Overview

Alphabet Soup is a fast-paced activity that can be played with groups of any size. It is quick and easy to explain and provides an opportunity for your group to move and be creative. Alphabet Soup works great indoors or outdoors, and can spark wonderful conversation.

In the following module you will learn how to properly set-up and facilitate the activity and then if you wish, move students through an academic and/or social skills development reflection experience.

Prerequisites


Ages

This exciting challenge is appropriate for all age groups.

Group Size
The sky's the limit! Any group size is appropriate.

Setting
Any open space (field, gym, basketball court etc.)

Duration
This activity should take about 20-30 minutes to complete with your group. Budget more time if you wish to go into depth by using any of the extension activities or questions.


Objectives

General

In this activity, some of the things you will inevitably notice include:

  1. Students will be working together and communicating both verbally and non-verbally.
  2. Students will make quick decisions and practice in-the-moment planning.
  3. Students will be active and in motion for at least 5-10 minutes.
